IF I
I am not a poet.
I'm not very good with words.
I get confused really easily and
it makes people think I'm always unsure.
I want to speak my truth and
gain the flow that I lack.
I stumble and stutter over my lips and I can hear my voice crack.
in a thousand places.
I wish you could all see the looks on your faces.
I am not a poet but i would love to be.
To see the world as it is but also how we want it to be.
If I was a poet I would write things that would
break into your hearts and
take hold of your tongues
I would spin sentences that
wrap around your own experiences
and make a room full of strangers feel like one.
If I was a poet I'd use my pen for justice
Justifying why we need to keep writing and stop typing.
But still write about how technology is power.
And that power is ours.
A poet has a certain ability
Scribing rhythm into words
Embedded letters into a medium
unleashing their urge to be heard.
I'm not a William nor am I a Maya shaping ages of literature or revolution.
Bringing forth change and catharsis
Bringing people some kind of written absolution.
I'm not worthy to dip my toe
into this golden art that coats our history.
Inspiring minds to dig deeper
without leaving meaning lost in mystery
The dark ages where writing was lost reminds me of where we are now.
People are screaming instead of perceiving
Intolerance that needs to be untaught but noone is listening
when ideas have been sewn into them from when they were this years old
If I was a poet I'd speak of love
Of infatuation spilling out the recipe of sweet heart's potion.
Flooding the gates of your mind with pungent emotion.
I would be a poet that checks her spelling
Leaving no place for misunderstanding because
people will interpret what they want but not from me.
I'd want my poems to be a conversation
Less complex words and more communication.
I would be a poet that's too shy to speak.
To give an awkward stance after each performance because
she actually has social anxiety.
but If I were a poet I would be yours.
I would be unapologetic-ally me
share with you my joys and my woes.
You would sway with my feelings and freeze at at my fears.
I wouldn't cry in front of you but I'd let you hear my tears.
Wow.
If I was a poet
I don't even think I would know it.
