People Puzzles

Humans are puzzling creatures.

We seek things like perfection when we embody nothing close.

“Perfect”

A word used to describe something that has no flaws.

A state of mind that prevents so many from reaching their full potential.

A thing that reveals our fears of judgment or failure.

An ideal that has changed so many times, I wonder why it still exists as a finish line.

Why do we chase this prize that is coated in glossy paint with a finish that is slowly chipping away?

Why is this standard thrust upon us until we feel the need to smoothen our edges and sharpen our hearts?

Why do we mould ourselves to the crowd

Why do we dull out colours?

This idea that perfection is a matter of practice, while with each mistake we feel a little out of step with others.

We feel like a doll that doesn't fit in a matched set. But the set was never meant to be faultless.

To feel like a delicate cup with a crack that might be shoved to the back of the cupboard never to be seen again. Because we’re no longer good enough to sit with the others that remain pretty and pristine.

To look in the mirror with longing and loneliness and see a piece that doesn't fit

But our growth lies in our never-ending failures.

Our stumbles into understanding.

Our beauty emerges from our discomfort to reveal the ever-shifting, breathtaking landscapes of our lives.

We all fit together so well, in a way that can be hard to see.

That in this world where we might feel that we don’t fit,

is ourselves who are constantly changing the bigger picture.
